                    Code Groupings

First yoga class I went to with my sister

(sister)heavily influenced me

Sister had started doing yoga

Sister decided to do yoga teacher training

Used to be a dancer…knew that I liked… the flow of yoga

Immediate love of practicing yoga

See lots of benefits… physically, mentally, spiritually

One of the best feelings

Empowering

Watching my students grow

Seeing them master a posture

Someone’s learning something new

Get my students ready

Watching my students grow

It’s a gift

Fun to see progress

Excited about changes with their body and mind

Peak posture

Relaxing, relaxation

Try to make each class different

Fun coming up with new sequences

Quew them into postures

Fun to have regulars

I know why they come to yoga

Building a relationship with my students

What they like in a class

Share that with other people

Get such energy from my students

Now that we have looked at an engaging interview and coding, we can look at the themes from our interview

Note that it is easier to theme an engaging interview, and interesting themes emerge! Note how much data has been gathered from a five minute engaging interview

Now we have collected satisfactory codes, it is time to impliment the final stages of our thematic analysis on our example interview...

Searching for themes - Decide which codes are most important, this stage you can get rid of codes that don't fit in anywhere. A good way of doing this is creating Code Groups, as seen bellow. This allows you to Conceptualize your idea.

Reviewing themes - Creating your code groups allows you to view the possible themes which should become more apparent. Remember to be open minded when reviewing your groupings.

Defining and naming themes - Once you are happy with the significance of each group, you can start naming the themes. Take a look at the named themes from our "how to do it" interview. Can you think of a name that would be appropriate with our last code group?

Producing the report - In a larger study with many interviews, you use the themes that appear in all of your thematic analysis' to identify any correlations. Thus getting a clearer picture of the answers to your research question.
